FunerealDoom “Nord-Sud” is the standout track, a slowly-developing exploration of slide timbres whose narrative structure reminds one of textural improvisations by Henry Kaiser, early Jim O’Rourke, and Keith Rowe. Ryan is really interested in subtle changes of timbre and harmonic frequencies. The result is like watching shadows slowly make their way across a courtyard late on a summer Sunday afternoon. Nord-Sud is an extended electroacoustic improvisation based on the writings of Pierre Reverdy.

First Sun and Second Sun are shorter companion pieces based on the weeks leading up to and after my second son, Lorie, was born on February 6, 2022. Both improvisations were recorded at home in Kensington, Maryland.

Nord-Sud was recorded on February 1, 2022 by Jarrett Nicolay at Mixtape Studios in Alexandria, Virginia.

All sounds were improvised in the moment, as they were recorded, by a guitar, brass slide, fuzz pedal and amplifier.
